Dallas Mavericks: 20-1

Here’s a scary idea, via Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com:”You don’t get any better than Rick Carlisle crime, but Carlisle’s offense got a lot better this offseason.”
Drink this one in.
Last season, Carlisle’s Mavs tied for second in the league having an offensive rating of 109, decimal points behind the NBA-best Los Angeles Clippers, according to NBA.com. Dallas brought to soften the blow, while the reduction of genius sniper and facilitator Jose Calderon will sting. And a few possessions can be absorbed by Monta Ellis as well, which will not be a bad thing for the Mavs’ assault.
The significant increase comes in Chandler Parsons, who will slot in small forward to consume nearly all the wing minutes Shawn Marion and Vince Carter shared. Tyson Chandler mans the middle of what should be an improved defense.
What Dallas has is fragile. It depends on the ongoing and health potency of Dirk Nowitzki, around whom an elite offense can nevertheless be built. That is a remarkable thing to mention about a participant, but Nowitzki is, himself remarkable.
As long as he’s ready to stand upright, he’ll be a defense-shredder from the high post. And the rest of the Mavs will play him off as the strings are pulled by Carlisle from the seat.
Doubt this set of battle-tested vets in your own risk.
